At the moment we are in the process of planning the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, therefore a detailed programme is not yet available. However, the Global Forum will certainly include plenary sessions, breakout sessions, seminars and workshops. Additionally, there will be possibilities for exhibitions and pre-/post-events organized by individual organizations.

The Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy has always strived to provide a worldwide meeting place for high-quality discussions on the latest developments and future perspectives on democracy. Since the first Global Forum was held in 2008 in Aarau, Switzerland we have consistently tried to work towards a forum where activists, experts and anyone working on direct democracy can engage in a meaningful exchange on topics of citizen participation and civic movements. We want to build on this history with the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy in Taichung turning our focus to the question of “Modern Participatory Democracy in Asia and Beyond: from People Power to Direct Democracy”. In addition, we hope that the 2019 Global Forum can offer a space to tell the powerful and genuine story of Taiwan’s road to democracy and the evolution of civic movements, particularly in Taichung, to a local as well as a global audience throughout the Forum itself and during a pre-tour.
The Forum itself will start on the evening of Wednesday 2 October and last until midday of Saturday October 5.

We are sincerely looking forward to you joining us and sharing your experiences on the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, and once the agenda is settled, it will be updated here. Please keep an eye on our website for more detailed information! If you already want to register, please click
